Ja Morant NBA Scouting Report and Pro Comparison
Ja Morant NBA Draft Projection, Scouting Report, Strengths/Weaknesses, Pro Comparison, and Highlights leading up to the 2019 NBA Draft
Measurables:
- Age: 19
- Height: 6’3″
- Wingspan: 6’7″
- Weight: 175 LBs
Strengths:
Gets to the FT line at an absurd rate and converts. (81.3 FT% on 8.2 FTA).
Elite playmaker. Vision and ability to hit small windows in unteachable.
High rising athlete. Can finish over bigger defenders.
Above average defender/rebounder for a PG.
Quick first step off the dribble. Tough to defend.
Unguardable on the fast-break.
Great shot-blocker for a guard.
Weaknesses:
Inconsistent shooter, especially from deep.
Very very turnover prone. 5.2 TO/Game.
Needs to add strength.
Little experience against P5 Talent for an elite prospect.
Pro Comparison:
Russell Westbrook
Elite athletes who can take over a game as a scorer and/or playmaker. Despite average PG size at 6’3″/6’4″, they can finish big at the rim at a very good rate. As distributors they can hit tight windows and seem to always know where their teammates will be. It is yet to be seen whether Murray will be as ball-dominant as Westbrook in the NBA, but he has the potential to be just as talented.
NBA Draft Outlook:
2nd Pick.
Ideal Fits:
Grizzlies at 2
Conley is still effective, but getting older every season. Grizzlies are looking to usher in a new lineup headlined by Jaren Jackson and soon to be Grizzlie Ja Morant. Assuming Conley will be traded in the offseason, Memphis doesn’t have a ton of talent so Morant will be given the keys to the offense Day 1 and be told to make plays. Due to his likely absurd usage rate, keep an eye out for him as the likely ROTY favorite.
